A QR internship preparation route for STEM students
Connect probability, Python, reproducible research and official job requirements in one preparation plan.
Start with the work, not a list of brainteasers
A junior quantitative researcher may be asked to reason under uncertainty, implement a small analysis, and explain whether a result survives basic scrutiny. Practise those tasks together. A correct formula without a defensible data timeline is not enough.
Use the diagnostic to find weak foundations. Then work through the QR plan: probability and estimation, regression and time series, markets and data timing, followed by one complete research project.
Build one piece of evidence
For a portfolio project, state a question before looking at the holdout. Keep source data and a digest, specify the baseline and time split, run sensitivity checks, and report a failed attempt. The Treasury curve project uses official historical yields; the option pricer checks an analytic price against simulation and parity. Neither should be presented as a realized trading return.
Rehearse the explanation
Use timed practice to expose gaps in speed and implementation. Then defend your project in words: what you assumed, why the benchmark matters, how leakage could enter, and what would change your conclusion. Treat the score as practice feedback, not a credential.
Finally, use the QR company directory to inspect current official requirements. Read each specific role before applying; degree and location requirements vary by team.
